Decked out like a beauty parlor from the 1960s, this
elegantly kitsch bar serves up martinis with your manicure
(Thu-Sat 6pm-11pm) for only $10.
Owner Paul Devitt, who also owns Star Shoes around
the corner, paid homage to vintage glamour by outfitting
this retro salon with salvaged fixtures from a salon
in Bakersfield. The bar serves up clever drinks like
the Prell, made with Midori, pineapple and vodka, and
the Platinum Blonde, which has vodka, Malibu rum and
pineapple. The vintage blow-dryers are great to sit
under while gossiping over cosmos in the early evening.
But if you stay late enough on Thursdays, you're likely
spot indie hot shots like Har Mar Superstar, Nick Zinner
from The Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Carlos D. from Interpol
manning the turntables. This explains all those hip
indie guys standing in such close proximity to the blow-dryers!
